Preservation of native hip function is usually better than total hip arthroplasty when the benefits of the treatment outweigh the risks of the intervention. Modern hip preservation started in Bern in late 1980s. Their concepts and techniques were masterly, novel and well thought out. The discussion on this site will be based on Reinhold Ganz’s concepts modified by Prasad Gourineni’s experience since 1998. The information is not always evidence based, but always honest. Some of the ideas go against conventional teaching and published literature.
