Labral tears are very common and usually caused by stresses placed on it by abnormal bone morphology. Labral tear should not be the primary diagnosis and it is usually expected in all painful hips. Labral tears heal with repair if causative factors are treated.
Type 1 – Chondro-labral separation – From Cam impingement, acute subluxation or dislocation
Type 2 – Intra substance tears – pincer impingement.
Type 3 – Dysplastic hips tear a hypertrophied labrum that can avulse adjacent acetabular articular cartilage with it or can also have bone fragment attached to the torn labrum (rim fracture), or a combination producing an inside out tear.
Flap tears and radial tears are descriptive types.
